After breakfast we make our way down to the quaint village of Misfah Al Abriyeen, enclosed by spectacular date palms and cliff faces. We take a stroll along the Falaj irrigation channels and paths. From Misfah we drive to Jabrin Castle, then onto Bahla Fort (UNESCO world heritage site), After lunch at a local restaurant we head up to the Mountain of the Sun, Jebel Shams where we can look over the Grand Canyon of Oman for some awesome views. We stop for the night at a resort high on Jebel Shams.

Day 3

Jebel Shams – Balcony Walk – Nizwa  or Jebel Akhdar

After breakfast we drive the short journey to the start of the Balcony walk. This walk is not too arduous and is suitable for most people of moderate fitness. It meanders along just below the edge of the Grand Canyon and leads to a rock pool and an abandoned village at the end of the path The scenery is truly spectacular. After gathering our breath, we drive back down the Jebel to Nizwa to visit the Nizwa Fort and the Souk. Tonight we will stay in Nizwa or drive up to Jebel Akhdar  we leave both options open a it is often difficult to find good value accommodation in Nizwa. If we drive up to Jebel Akhdar we will stay at the Jebel Akhdar hotel ( all the other hotels are extremely expensive)

Day 4

Nizwa  or Jebel Akhdar – Wadi Bani Khalid   Desert Camp

If we stay at Nizwa we first drive up to Jebel Akhdar to admire the views before driving  to Wadi Bani Khalid. The Wadi has deep blue pools surrounded by spectacular mountains and date palms making it a perfect place to soak up the sun, go for a swim and absorb some of Oman’s natural beauty. Wadi Bani Khalid is one of Oman’s most popular destinations and can be very busy at weekends or local Holidays. Bring your swimming gear! A swim in the rock pools is a must, after drying off

we head for the Desert Camp which is hidden away deep in the Wahiba sands to escape all light and noise pollution from the nearby town of Badiya, enabling you to have an authentic desert experience. We will arrive before sunset to ensure we witness the sun setting over the golden sand dunes and afterwards, enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner possibly followed by a camp fire, with a magical sky full of stars.

Please note we use one of two camps that we have carefully selected over the years. One of the camps was chosen by the BBC travel show when Ade Adepitan and the team stayed there and filmed December 2016 It can be seen on the BBC travel show web site search for “Experiencing life in a Bedouin camp”

Day 5

Desert Camp – Duqm

After an unforgettable night in the wilderness of the Wahiba sands and breakfast the camp staff will offer optional camel rides and dune bashing for an additional fee. Please inform our guide or the camp staff if you would like to participate the night before. Please be aware that dune bashing must be undertaken at your own risk  After Drying off we drive East to the coast, watch out for camels along the way, they just amble along taking no notice of a car doing 120 KM hr We hit the coast at a town called Al Ashkharah  we then turn South to drive along some of Oman’s most stunning scenery. It is a truly wonderful site to see the sand dunes of the Wahiba sands jut out into the Arabian Sea with the Indian Ocean glistening in sunlight beyond. Today is a fairly long drive to the new Port of Duqm but at the end of the drive there is a fabulous Hotel right on a glorious beach. We will stay here two nights

Day 6

Duqm – Ras Madrakah – 3 Palm Tree Lagoon – Duqm

Today we will explore some stunning scenery we will first drive to Ras Madrakah a fishing village with beautiful white beaches contrasted by black rocks. We will then  drive further down the coast to what we call 3 Palm tree lagoon. This is a very little known place as the new road by passes it completely. On the old graded road ( o those were the days !!)  the turn off to the Lagoon was marked by 3 old Palm trees.  Today we must use GPS. The lagoon which remarkably is fresh water is separated from the sea by beautiful Sand dunes. After a swim in either the sea or the lagoon we will return to our Hotel in Duqm

Day 7

Duqm – Sugar Dunes – Masirah Island

From our Hotel we drive through the rapidly expanding port town of Duqm  Along the way up the coast we turn off to explore the famous Sugar Dunes called so because the sand is like white sugar . we will explore the coast line before heading north to the small   ferry port at Shanna and get a Ferry across to Masirah Island. We will stay two nights on the Island

Day 8

Masirah Island

Masirah is a truly stunning Island with some white sandy beaches it is very popular with surfers and Kite surfers in the summer months. Today we drive around the Island and then in the afternoon relax on a beach. We will ask the locals where the best place is to see Turtles

Day 9

Masirah Island – Turtle Beach

After breakfast we catch the Ferry back to the mainland. from the Ferry port at Shanna we actually follow the same coast road that we drove down before. The road is so spectacular that you will certainly enjoy it a second time. We follow the coast all the way around to Ras Al Hadd to stay at Turtle Beach.

If you did not see the Turtles on Masirah Island, there is a second chance. The resort can arrange optional Turtle Tours please note the Turtle watching tour is not included. Note the Peak season for turtles are the hot summer months so please do not be disappointed if you do not see turtles. The resort is just a fabulous place to stay anyway.

Day 10

Turtle Beach – Sur – Wadi Shab

Today we drive north up the coast. Our first stop is at Sur. which historically was a center of shipping trade to East-Africa. Sur is also famous for boat building and Dhows can still be seen being built in the traditional way that has not changed for hundreds of years (except the engine of course). Just after Sur we pass one of the main economic life lines of Oman, the LNG plant. This is where Gas is compressed under great pressure into liquid form and is transferred to giant LNG tankers and shipped to energy hungry markets around the world. We then drive to the very popular Wadi Shab. A hike along Wadi Shab is not very challenging, however it can get very slippery in the rock pools before entering the caves, so please ensure you bring proper footwear that you don’t mind getting wet. To reach the beautiful waterfall at the end of the hike you must swim through two small pools and a key hole cave! If you aren’t confident with swimming, please let us know and our guide will carry a life-jacket for you. Bring a waterproof camera if you have one! We will stay the night at the Wadi Shab hotel.

Day 11

Wadi Shab – Bimmah Sink Hole – Wadi Arbeieen – Wadi Dayqah Dam – Wadi Mayh –Muscat Airport

After breakfast overlooking the magnificent coast line we drive to Hawiyat Najm Park where the popular Bimmah Sink Hole is located. The Sink Hole is a lovely place to swim and jump of the rocks or just dip your feet in for a fantastic free fish spa as it contains many “doctor fish”.

After cooling off we drive along the coast to turn off at Dibab and drive through the mountains to  Wadi Arbeieen Sssssssh Please do not tell anyone about this Wadi and let’s hope there are not too many other people here. The large rock pool and the waterfall are magnificent. It is great fun to jump off the rocks and swim as far as you can against the current of the water fall

From wadi Arbeieen we drive through a Geological Wonderland to emerge surrounded by date plantations in Wadi Dayqah. We visit the impressive Wadi Dayqah dam

After a picnic lunch we head back to muscat via Wadi Mayh.

The drive through  Wadi Mayh gives a snap shot of the Omani way of life in the wadis with old houses and lush date plantations what a contrast to the modern urbanization of Muscat which is so close.

The tour finishes at Muscat Airport or your chosen accommodation
